Nu Art Jazz Orchestra

In the world of Nu Art Orchestra, big band music takes an adventurous trip. This is not your average big band, but an ensemble that hits the road with brand new, original music written by band members.
Nu Art Orchestra was initiated by saxophonist and composer Marike van Dijk (you may know her from the North Sea Jazz composition assignment ‘Stranded’ from 2022). Marike is a woman on a mission: to create a contemporary and fresh big band sound and at the same time give a platform to young women in jazz.
And the result is impressive: Nu Art Orchestra consists mainly of women, including some of Europe's most inspiring jazz musicians: Tineke Postma, Suzan Veneman, Shannon Barnett and Ella Zirina. The ‘Nu’ in Nu Art Orchestra stands for 'new' and 'uncompromising'. Expect a big band that pushes the boundaries, challenges the jazz tradition and plays straight from the heart.
People who have already heard the band say:
“A feast for my ears!”
“A big band yes, and also jazz, but also very different.”
“Big band 2.0 if you ask me!”
Curious? Rightly so!
Oh, there is another cherry on the cake: Nu Art Orchestra is ‘Orchestra in Residence’ of TivoliVredenburg, top notch venue in the Netherlands!
The collaboration lasts for a period of four years (2025-2028), so you can look forward to exciting concerts (and recordings) that meander between jazz and pop and pull you into the big band sound that is about now!
